What can I narrate, for after all endeavours, I have come to learn
That no narration can describe You, the indescribable Source of all existence.
I may utter what flows in harmony with Your Divine pleasure
Yet it counts for no more than a sesame seed, before Your Greatness.
– Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, ang 795
Jewels from Sikh Wisdom explores the lyrical teachings of the scripture that Sikhs revere as an eminent, ever-living source of eternal wisdom – Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. A rich collection of artworks by the internationally acclaimed artists, The Singh Twins, joins a contemplative yet accessible text to revisit the emergence of the heritage of wisdom and way of life that is known as the Sikh dharam. Beginning with the life of Guru Nanak and his teachings on Oneness, the book journeys through the verses of Jap Ji Sahib, the first morning prayer, before illuminating how the lives of the ten Sikh Gurus led to the flowering of the Khalsa and the Guruship of the scripture. Closing themes on humanhood, birth and death, and on honouring nature and serving society, point to our spiritual kinship as humans.
Conceived by Harinder Singh of Sikh Art UK, this unique compilation represents an inspired collaboration between Sikhlens, the US-based not-for-profit arts foundation, and a UK-based creative team supported by the Guru Nanak Nishkam Education Trust. Under the visionary direction of Bhai Sahib Mohinder Singh Ji, the book’s main commentary was developed by Gopinder Kaur. Presented in the original Gurmukhi script, the riches of Sikh scriptural verse are shared with readers through creatively expressed, English-language interpretations. Taking the poignant analogy of learning to trade together in the practice of timeless wisdom, for the time we have on this planet, Jewels from Sikh Wisdom – A Journey of Discovery reaches out to all.
A captivating journey through the budding and unfolding of Sikh spiritual heritage, offering timeless teachings on transforming our inner and outer worlds.
